Meditation

We create the space to experience different meditation techniques on the island of Mallorca — active and passive meditations, guided meditations and awareness exercises for daily life.

What meditation is

Simply watching the thoughts

Many people still believe that meditation is only sitting cross-legged with eyes closed, chanting mantras or watching the breath. These are only three of many techniques we can practise to come out of our mechanical mind for some moments and reconnect with who we really are — underneath all the layers of conditioning and protection.

Anything can become meditation. That doesn't mean meditation is an activity, but that any activity of life can become meditation. It means doing every act with awareness. Awareness means being in the present moment.

It's very difficult to have a single second in which we have no thought, no mind activity. Every moment many thoughts are seeking our attention. Meditation means just watching those thoughts, without the need to analyze them or get involved with them.

Actually, not one of the thoughts is ours; they all come from outside. We cannot stop them from coming, but we can stop giving them attention. This process of stopping is called witnessing. When we witness the thoughts they can no longer distract us — we are in the present moment doing all our everyday activities, and at the same time, meditation is happening.

Methods are needed only until the state of meditation — of relaxed awareness, of consciousness and centering — has become not just a passing experience, but as intrinsic to one as breathing.

Osho

Active meditations

The Osho active meditations

The active meditations were designed by Osho for the modern man. The modern man is so filled with suppressed emotions in his body that he cannot sit silently — and even when he can, the mind won't stop. Before we can hope to access our inner powerhouse of consciousness, we need to let go of our tensions.

All of the active meditations begin with a stage of activity — sometimes intense and physical — followed by a period of silence. Each is accompanied by music specially composed to guide the meditator through the different stages.

Among them are Dynamic Meditation in the early morning, Kundalini at sunset, Nadabrahma — the humming meditation, Nataraj as a meditation of dance, and the ancient Sufi technique of Whirling. For the different stages and more about Osho and meditation in general, you can connect with www.osho.com.

Further active meditations include the Devavani meditation (a language beyond the mind), the Gourishankar meditation (with conscious breathing), the Mandala meditation (centring) and the No-Dimensions meditation (a Sufi technique) — each about one hour. There is also The Art of Listening, where Osho's audio talks turn listening itself into meditation, and Gibberish and Let-Go — a method of release through sound and movement, followed by deep relaxation.

Come into the silence.
