Raising our voices together

After their unforgettable concerts in 2012 and 2013, we keep bringing Deva Premal & Miten back to the island. Under the title “Singing Our Prayers”, the two have carried the power of mantra around the world for decades — that ancient science of healing-with-sound — to bring light into a darkened world.

In our quiet, sacred moments their music is like a gentle balm for the soul: it gives us a reason to move forward into life, with an open heart and a deep sense of hopefulness.

More than ever, we need to come together and raise our voices — not in protest, but in collective and harmonious chant. A power that lifts us above the noise of everyday life and carries us in the silence that follows.

Our concerts are not like other concerts. They are a spiritual meeting. We are just the messengers — the mantras are the message. And the silence comes naturally, as a result.

Icons of mantra music

Heard a million times

Since 1990, Deva & Miten have released a string of albums, with worldwide sales of over one million. Their concerts have moved from yoga studios to audiences of thousands in concert halls, cathedrals and music festivals around the planet.

Deva Premal and Miten are considered by many the icon of mystical music and mantras — almost all practitioners of yoga and meditation around the world have heard and felt their music.

Eckhart Tolle

“Pure magic” is what the best-selling author calls their music.

Cher

For the singer, Deva’s “The Essence” is “my favourite CD to do yoga to”.

Deva & Miten

Deva Premal was born in Germany, where she grew up in a family linked to music and the spiritual world. She sang mantras as a lullaby and already in her mother’s womb heard the “Gayatri mantra”. Coming from a background in classical music, she taught herself Sanskrit. At eleven her search brought her to become a disciple of the enlightened mystic Osho, and later she went to the ashram in India to study body work — massage, shiatsu and cranio-sacral therapies.

Miten was born in London and grew up in the 60s. In the 70s he achieved success as a singer and composer with groups and artists like Fleetwood Mac, Lou Reed and Ry Cooder. But the rock business left him feeling empty, so he left everything behind, even sold his guitars, and joined the Osho commune in India: “Here I found a new approach to music which healed me from whatever wounds I’d been carrying around music, and life in general.”

In 1990, Miten and Deva met in India — and soon began a journey into love and creativity that has carried their inspiring blend of song, mantra and meditation to a worldwide audience.

Without silence, you receive only half the story. For me there is nothing more precious than to sing with the audience, and then to enter the deep silence that the mantra brings — so deep that, in a small sacred moment, all personalities dissolve.

The silence that follows

Why they sing

The main purpose of their music, Deva and Miten say, is to be a gateway to meditation. Why meditate? Because without meditation, without connecting to the centre of our inner silence, life loses its meaning.

Their music is born out of that very meditation and a celebration of life. It is not about entertaining people — they play to nourish a longing in the heart for that which never dies.

Sing along

Three mantras

The sacred sounds that carry their evenings — to sing together.

Gayatri mantra

om bhur bhuvaha svaha · tat savitur varenyam · bhargo devasya dhimahi · dhiyo yonah prachodayat — praise to the source of all things.

Om Tare

om tare tuttare ture swaha · om tare tuttare ture swaha

Namaste

The buddha in me bows to the buddha in you.
